Want to try magnet fishing? You don't need complex, sophisticated equipment. You only need a few essential, durable items to begin your underwater exploration from the shore.

Here are the essential tools for this activity:
1. Powerful Fishing Magnet
This is the core of the entire setup.
How to choose: You need a dedicated fishing magnet with a steel casing for protection. These magnets usually have a metal ring to securely attach the rope.
Magnetic surface: Some are single-sided (more concentrated force), while others are double-sided (easier to pick up objects when dragging along the bottom). Choose based on the conditions of the waterbed.
2. High-Strength, Abrasion-Resistant Rope
Without a rope, the magnet will be lost forever.
Material requirements: It's best to use braided nylon or polypropylene rope. This rope should be long enough, resistant to abrasion, and maintain good tensile strength even when wet.
Grip: The rope shouldn't be too thin, otherwise it will be very uncomfortable to pull heavy objects.
3. Non-Slip Protective Gloves
Never pull the rope with bare hands.
Cut and slip resistance: Objects pulled from the water often have rust, burrs, or sharp edges. A pair of work gloves with a rubber coating will protect your hands from cuts and provide better grip when the rope is wet and slippery.
4. Grappling Hook
Sometimes, even if the fishing magnet has attached to something, the target might be too heavy or stuck in weeds or rocks.
Assisted lifting: In this case, you can throw down a grappling hook to help pull up the "big catch" along with the magnet. It's an excellent tool for dealing with large pieces of scrap metal.
5. Collection Bucket or Cart
You might pull up a pile of miscellaneous metal scraps from the water.
Storing debris: Prepare a plastic bucket or a small cart to store the rusty and muddy spoils. This not only keeps the environment clean but also makes it easier to transport the scrap metal to a recycling center.
6. Cleaning and Maintenance Supplies
Towels or rags: After use, the magnet surface will be covered with fine iron filings and sand. Wiping the fishing magnet dry promptly will prevent rust and extend its lifespan.
Threadlocker: This is a little trick. Applying a small amount of threadlocker when tightening the eye bolt on the magnet can prevent the magnet from accidentally detaching due to movement underwater.
