What is a fishing magnet?

A fishing magnet, as the name suggests, is a powerful magnetic tool used to "fish" for ferrous objects at the bottom of bodies of water or in hard-to-reach places. It uses strong magnetic force to attract and retrieve metal objects, replacing traditional hooks and lines.

This activity itself is also known as magnet fishing.

● Features and Components of Fishing Magnets

1. Powerful Magnetic Core

Main Material: The core of a fishing magnet is usually made of rare-earth magnets, particularly neodymium magnets.
Suction Strength: They are designed to provide extremely strong suction. Even heavy metal objects or those buried in mud and sand can be firmly attached and pulled up.

2. Protective Casing

Sturdy Enclosure: The magnet is encased in a sturdy steel casing (or magnetic pot).
Function: This casing not only protects the fragile magnet from collisions and wear (especially when it hits rocks or concrete), but also helps to concentrate the magnetic force, making the suction more effective.

3. Connecting Accessories

Rope Ring: On the steel casing of the magnet, there is one or more bolt-connected rings (or lifting rings).
Purpose: This is where a strong rope or cable is attached. The rope must be strong enough to withstand the force of pulling up heavy objects.

● How Does It Work?

1. Dropping into Water

The user drops the fishing magnet, with the rope attached, into bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, wells, or docks.

2. Magnetic Attraction

When the magnet comes into contact with ferromagnetic metals (such as iron, steel, or nickel) at the bottom of the water, the powerful magnetic field immediately attracts and attaches to them.

3. Pulling to Shore

The user slowly pulls up the magnet with the attached object using the rope until the object surfaces or is dragged to the shore.

● Main Purposes of Magnet Fishing

Environmental Cleanup: Many enthusiasts consider this a way to clean up bodies of water and protect the environment, pulling up discarded metal fragments, bicycle frames, tire rims, and other metal waste. Searching for Old Items: Sometimes people use magnets to search for and retrieve old tools, coins, parts, and other historical artifacts that have been left behind or abandoned in the water.

● Precautions for Use

Safety Rope: A strong, durable professional rope with high load-bearing capacity must be used, and ensure it is securely attached to the magnet.
Hand Protection: It is recommended to wear thick gloves to protect your hands from friction and sudden impacts when pulling the rope.
Safety Warning: The magnet has a very strong magnetic force.  Keep it away from large or dangerous metal objects that could be attracted to it during operation.
